Y&R Stars Reveal What They Submitted for the 2019 Daytime Emmys (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

This year, for the 2019 Daytime Emmy Awards, actors were asked to submit reels of up to 15 minutes in length containing clips from any episodes aired during the 2018 calendar year. And while the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences isn’t making these submissions public as they have in the past, some of the stars of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS told Soaps In Depth what scenes they chose for their reels. Will it be enough to earn them the coveted trophy? We’ll all find out when the Daytime Emmys air on Sunday, May 5!

Bryton James (Devon) – Outstanding Supporting Actor

“I used two scenes in the hospital, my last day of working with Mishael [Morgan, ex-Hilary]. The scene where Hilary actually passes away. And then I used the scene where I discovered that Lily was the cause of the accident. She took her eyes off the road and ran the red light. I had one episode where I started to have these panic attacks and I started going to therapy, so there is my one scene from the therapy episode.”

Beth Maitland (Traci) – Outstanding Supporting Actress

“I had a really good episode in the spring, one in the summer, and a couple in the fall that I earmarked for my own use. In the spring, it was about Dina and the Alzheimer’s issues. I might be getting this out of order. There was a scene early on where Dina stopped recognizing Traci and she calls me the nurse. The scene begins where Billy is comforting me in the dining room and Jack and Ashley have been quibbling and they come in and try to say, ‘Mother loves you. You know it’s the disease.’ And I blast them and say, ‘Look, don’t you talk to me about family! Daddy is gone, Colleen is gone. And you are all I have left. Our mother is disappearing every single day, and you guys just quibble and bicker like children.’ Then there was another episode during the Walnut Grove reunion and Traci dedicates a scholarship in Colleen, her late daughter’s, name. As a supporting actress, it’s not so much about my featured work as an actress. It’s about me supporting the other storylines of the people around me. So I added a little scene with Kyle, and an angry scene with Jack, and a fix-it scene with Ashley. And the last episode was when we had flashbacks of the young Abbotts and our history is seen through Traci’s eyes. I gather my family together for a family meeting and I’m telling them all, ‘You’ve got to straighten up, this is not who we are!”

Mishael Morgan (ex-Hilary) – Outstanding Supporting Actress

“It was pretty much all of Hilary’s final scenes. The scene where I find out that I’m not going to survive, and I had that with me and Gina [Tognoni]. Hilary and Phyllis, where it was her finding out that she was not going to make it. And then there was my scene with Kristoff St. John, basically just talking to him about letting things go. And my two last scenes with Bryton, with Hilary and Devon at the end.”

Peter Bergman (Jack) – Outstanding Lead Actor

“I submitted the day that Jack found out he was not an Abbott. He’s in the theater watching the film as it comes to a close, and we follow him through that day as he is seen in the bar with Billy trying to figure out what went wrong. As Billy is trying to talk him down, he goes home to find all his family there, and eventually, after listening to his mother go on about what a great marriage she and John have, Jack blows his top. He goes completely crazy on a woman with Alzheimer’s. He blows a cork. And the next scene, he is with Ashley having just found out she was behind this. And he’s duly upset and she tries to get his compassion before it’s over, and he does not have much compassion for her. I really did have a lot of material this year. I had some scenes with Kristoff St. John at the Abbott cabin, but I just had to take them off my reel.”
