Y&R’s Byrnes Stars In New Play

She’s not the tiny tot you remember from THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but she’s not quite grown either. Now a talented ‘tween with an impressive resumé — which includes her current role as Penny on ABC’s DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES — Darcy Rose Byrnes (ex-Abby) is returning to the Los Angeles stage in a new production of Emily’s Song. “I love having a live audience and the chance to revisit the character every night,” Byrnes enthuses of the opportunity to do theater with this new musical.

The musical, which is written and directed by New York Times best selling author, Chet Holmes, stars Lindsey Haun (TRUE BLOOD’s Hadley) in the title role as a former musical prodigy with a tragic past that colors her future; Byrnes plays Emily’s younger self and Broadway vet Tom Schmid is her dad, Charlie. “The role appealed to me because I like the story, and I get a chance to sing and play piano,” Byrnes reveals. “The challenge of playing a younger version of someone else is making sure we seem like the same person, but since my ‘childhood’ in the play was pretty perfect, and ‘adult Emily’s’ was very challenging, it was almost easier for me.”

The production runs Friday, January 21, through Sunday, February 27, at the Hudson Theatre. For tickets, call (323) 960-7788, or visit www.emilyssong.com.
