The role of Summer Newman on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS will be temporarily recast with Bayley Corman beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 2. However, as TV Insider reports, it’s only for three episodes, so that actress Hunter King can honor her commitment to her primetime series, LIFE IN PIECES.
King first debuted as Summer in October of 2012, and was soon placed on contract with the soap. However, in 2016, she dropped to recurring status with Y&R because she had been upped to a series regular on the CBS sitcom LIFE IN PIECES, where she plays Clementine. However, King returned to Y&R in June of 2018 on a contract basis, and has been involved in a major front-burner storyline as Summer stirs up trouble all over Genoa City (like trying to seduce her mother’s boyfriend!). So because the character is so important, the soap has chosen to recast for a few episodes instead of writing around King’s absence.
Bayley Corman is a young actress who has appeared in primetime series like FAKING IT, 2 BROKE GIRLS, JANE THE ViRGIN, and MODERN FAMILY as well as films like The Hatred and Christmas in Angel Falls. This will be her first daytime role.
This is just a temporary recast, and King will be back in Summer’s shoes immediately following Corman’s three episodes, on Thursday, Oct. 4. As to whether her shooting schedule at LIFE IN PIECES will continue to affect her time at Y&R, only time will tell.
