Brace yourself for a real blast from the past when THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS celebrates Melody Thomas Scott’s 40th anniversary on the soap with a special standalone episode focusing on her character of Nikki Newman airing on Wednesday, Feb. 20! “I would never have guessed when I first accepted the role of ‘Nikki Newman’ in 1979 that I would be fortunate enough to be playing her 40 years later," Scott said. "I treasure the gifts and memories it has given me immensely. I feel most fortunate to have enjoyed every minute of these 40 years.”
Scott joined the cast of Y&R in 1979 to play Nikki Reed, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who had previously been played by Erica Hope for less than a year. Her romance with Eric Braden’s Victor Newman became one of the soap’s most enduring and popular supercouples, and Nikki has become an important part of Genoa City’s history, earning Scott a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1999.
With Nikki having confessed to J.T.’s murder, she’s in exceptionally hot water right now, and as she sits in jail facing an uncertain fate, the beleaguered heroine pens a letter to her grandchildren sharing some of the most memorable moments of her life, including her epic love affair with Victor. The special hour of television will feature vintage flashbacks from episodes dating all the way back to 1979, including some that haven’t been seen since their original broadcast. So make sure your DVR is set to record this historic episode, and enjoy this special tease!
