Fans of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS have noticed something new that began with the Dec. 13 episode — the soap now opens with a “Previously On” segment to recap past storylines in order to give viewers a reminder of scenes that will have an impact on that day’s episode!
“We are always exploring innovative approaches to enrich the viewing experience for our fans,” explained Y&R’s executive producer/headwriter, Mal Young. “Adding the ‘Previously On’ segment provides us an opportunity to set the tone for each episode and draw on the rich history of Y&R to connect the dots of the past, present, and future.”

With his experience in British television, including UK soaps like EASTENDERS, DOCTORS, CASUALTY, and HOLBY CITY, Young brought a fresh perspective to the U.S.’s top-rated daytime sudser when he first went to work in January of 2016. The first episode with his credit as executive producer aired in July, and just over a year later, in August of 2017, Young was also named headwriter of Y&R!
The stars of Y&R were excited by the changes that Young brought to Genoa City, and fans quickly followed suit once those changes began to air on television. What else might the writer/producer have up his sleeve for the soap in the future? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out!
