Hunter King Reveals Summer Is “Flying By the Seat of Her Pants” on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS! (EXCLUSIVE)
Summer has always been trouble on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but ever since Hunter King returned to the role this year, she’s been taking it to the extreme! But even as the young woman has been scheming with her ex and trying to seduce her mom’s boyfriend, King insisted her alter ego is just trying to have a good time. “Summer was coming back new and exciting and grown up,” she told Soaps In Depth. “I just wanted her to be playful and not take herself so seriously, which I felt went with the new Summer vibe! I’m trying to keep a little bit of lightheartedness in some of her scenes.”
Of course, those lighter, flirtatious scenes are mirrored by the heavy, emotional dramatic ones, which is par for the course on a show like Y&R. “It really is where one week you are doing heavy drama and the next week you’re doing something totally different, something totally lighthearted,” King mused.

As Summer continues causing drama all over Genoa City, it’s clear the apple didn’t fall far from the tree — she’s definitely Phyllis’ daughter! “They both like to stir up trouble!” King laughed. “Summer is turning into a character where you never know what she’s up to. You THINK you know what she’s doing one moment, but the next moment, she deviates and goes a whole other way. It’s really fun to play a character like that. I’ve seen how much fun they’ve had with the Phyllis character, so I love knowing that I’m Phyllis’ daughter!”
And while Kyle might still seem to be interested in rekindling things with Summer, she’s got her eyes focused on Billy and tearing him away from her mother. “I don’t think Summer knows what’s in store for her,” King teased. “She doesn’t know who she’s interested in or what she wants to do next. But for me, that’s the exciting part of playing her again. She really is flying by the seat of her pants. She’s a free spirit right now, and whatever comes will come!”
