Y&R’s Christel Khalil Opens up About How Her Son Has Changed Her Life (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

When Mother’s Day rolls around, Christel Khalil (Lily, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) doesn’t just spend Mother’s Day with her son, Michael, 9. She likes to share the love — and the honor — with her own mom, Belita. “We’ll do what we normally do every year, where my mom, my son, maybe a couple of my brothers, and I will go out to either lunch or dinner,” she predicted to Soaps In Depth. “It’s nice that we have a day to recognize all the hard work that mothers do. I definitely like it for myself, but I also like doing stuff with my own mom as well, so it’s nice!”

Also nice are the touching mementos that Michael has created for her throughout the years. “He’s made me a little plaque with red hearts, and tons of cards,” smiled the proud mom. “His school does a lot of arts and crafts, so I get Mother’s Day gifts because they make the kids do them every year!”

Still, the Emmy winner says that it’s the less tangible gifts that she really appreciates from her son. “I feel like I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I hadn’t had my son,” she reflected quietly. “The lessons he’s taught me are countless! He’s taught me to be more selfless, more compassionate, more empathetic. Because I had him when i was so young, it really was an age where I thought I knew everything. He helped show me what life is really about and what really matters, which I think is important for anyone to realize!”
