THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Obba Babantudé Defends His Character’s Despicable Actions!

Tags:

If no one likes a cynic, then why do we have so much fun watching THE BOLD & BEAUTIFUL’s Julius rail on about his distaste for his daughters’ life choices? Perhaps it’s because of the way his portrayer, Obba Babantudé, manages to imbue the character with humanity, despite his stuck-in-his-ways — and sometimes selfish — sensibilities.

“Julius represents much of what we’re seeing going on in the world today, the people who say, ‘Hey, we’re not accepting that,’” says the actor of his alter ego’s reluctance to embrace Maya’s transformation to a transgender woman. “It would be easy enough to make him a jerk, but he’s actually an articulate, intelligent man, who happens to love his children. That’s what makes him so interesting. He feels the way he feels with a sense of righteous indignation.”

Babatundé chats about the challenges and rewards of playing such a complicated character at this stage in his storied career, including his opinion of Julius’s infamous outburst at Rick and Maya’s wedding! It’s all in the latest issue of Soaps In Depth, on sale now!
