What Happened to Raul on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS

Raul hasn’t been on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS for a while, so some may not be as familiar to newer viewers of the soap. The character first appeared back in 1999 and was played by David Lago, who was nominated for an Outstanding Younger Actor Daytime Emmy every year of his Y&R run, finally taking home the trophy in 2005. Although Raul left Genoa City in 2004, he made brief returns in 2009 and 2018, so who knows if he might come back again?

Raul Guttierez was introduced attending Walnut Grove Academy on a scholarship. He befriended Mackenzie Browning, Rianna Miner, J.T. Hellstrom, and Brittany Hodges. He started dating Mac, but she left him for Billy Abbott, ruining the friendship between the guys. Raul then turned to Rianna, who stayed by his side when he suffered from a seizure because of his diabetes. After awakening from a diabetic coma, Raul tried to break it off with Rianna, but she convinced him to stay with her.

However, when he pressured her for sex, Rianna dumped him. Overwhelmed by his illness, relationships, and school, Raul began lashing out at everyone around him and when his grades slipped it ruined his dream of being the first person in his family to attend college. His older brother, Diego, arrived in town, but Raul resented him for abandoning the family.

Eventually, Raul got his act together and began dating Brittany. He even agreed to be Billy’s best man when he married Mac. But when Brittany began stripping, it was the beginning of the end for them. After she fell for Bobby Marsino, Brittany dumped Raul, who left Genoa City to attend Pemberton College in Boston.

Raul was seen again in 2009 when it was revealed that he was now dating Mac. Billy wasn’t crazy about his best friend from high school dating his former wife, but Raul expressed his desire to make Mac his wife. Unfortunately, the more time Mac spent with Billy, the more she doubted Raul was her Mr. Right and she eventually called off the engagement. Heartbroken, Raul returned to Washington D.C. to make a fresh start.

In 2018, Raul came home to Genoa City once more to attend the Walnut Grove reunion and catch up with all his old friends. It turned out that after Mac had dumped Raul, he’d reconnected with Brittany and they’d gotten married a year later, and he’d adopted Joshua, her son with Bobby.
