Look out, Genoa City — Hunter King is coming back to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS as Summer Newman! The last time viewers saw the character was back in December of 2016 when she celebrated her birthday at a surprise party at The Underground before leaving to travel the world.
Nick and Phyllis’ daughter was always a spitfire, and our friends at TV Line are reporting that when Summer makes her return on Monday, June 4, she’s going to be in big trouble — meaning, behind bars! With the return of Kyle Abbott to Y&R, it’s the perfect time to reintroduce Summer to see if their on-again, off-again relationship can get back on track.

King took over the role of the recently SORAS-ed teen Summer in 2012, replacing the short-lived Lindsay Bushman. During her four years on the soap, she earned five Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Younger Actress, taking home the trophy twice in a row in 2014 and 2015. At the same time she was playing Summer, King was also appearing as Clementine in the CBS comedy LIFE IN PIECES, but when she was upped to series regular for the show’s second season, she dropped to recurring at Y&R. But while LIFE IN PIECES isn’t slated to return for its fourth season until midseason, King is back on contract at Y&R, so presumably they’ve worked out a schedule to allow her to work on both shows.
What kind of trouble is Summer in that lands her in jail? And what kind of trouble will she cause in Genoa City once Nick and Phyllis bring her home safely? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out! And for more Y&R casting news, keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth magazine!
