Soap fans can celebrate because NBC has announced some amazing news — DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been renewed for a 55th season!
“With writing that manages to weave together Salem’s history with current realities, Ken Corday and his team have ushered the show’s legacy into a new era that resonates with both longtime and new viewers,” said Bruce Evans, executive vice president, current programming of NBC Entertainment. “The actors and crew have such a tremendous respect for DAYS and what it means to fans. We believe that level of commitment shows through and touches our audience year after year.”
DAYS first debuted on NBC in November of 1965, and became a television institution, celebrating its 13,000th episode in January of 2017. However, the soap was considered to be in jeopardy at the beginning of 2017 when rumors persisted that it would be canceled to make room on the daytime schedule for a new show hosted by Megyn Kelly. Thankfully those fears were unfounded and DAYS was picked up for another season, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon!
“it’s a great day in Salem! The sands in the hourglass will continue to flow for yet another year,” said executive producer Ken Corday. “We’re grateful to NBC and Sony for their continued support of the show and, of course, to our dedicated and passionate fans, we owe it all to you. Thank you for taking us through our 55th season. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.”
So DAYS fans can take heart that the sands will continue falling through the hourglass for another season, and look forward to the upcoming romance and adventurei. And soap fans, in general, can celebrate that another daytime drama has avoided the axe!
