Kassie DePaiva (ex-Eve, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) is thrilled to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards race, even if the hosts of THE TALK mispronounced her name when they made the announcement!
“My mom called,” DePaiva tells Soaps In Depth. “She was the one that got to tell me. My dad called back about 15 minutes later and said he was not expecting to react the way he did. He said he jumped up and clapped his hands as if Kentucky had beat Louisville in the NCAA tournament.” Then she laughs and adds, “That’s a big deal!”
Having been in the industry for decades, also playing GUIDING LIGHT’s Chelsea and ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Blair, DePaiva knows that some years you have the scenes to earn a nomination and some you don’t. “This year in particular, I knew I had really strong material to submit,” she says.
The actress counts herself in good company with her fellow nominees, but says she doesn’t feel like she’s in competition with them. “We don’t do what we do to win awards,” DePaiva muses. “It’s a personal achievement, definitely, but getting through a day on a soap opera is a personal achievement for me. I still get nervous.
“But it is nice to have that acknowledgement that you have made a mark,” she adds. “On this year, anyway!”
