What Happened to Caroline Brady on DAYS

Caroline Brady on DAYS OF OUR LIVES is a beloved character fans have adored for decades but sadly, with the October, 2018, passing of actress Peggy McCay, her story is coming to an end. The character first appeared in 1983 with McCay playing the role until her death. Although Jody Carter and Barbara Beckley stepped in briefly in 1983 and 1984, respectively. Over the years, McCay earned four Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress for her work on DAYS.

Caroline arrived in Salem along with the rest of the Brady clan in 1983 which included her husband, Shawn, and kids Roman, Bo, and Kayla. (Estranged daughter Kimberly arrived the following year.) Her old flame, Victor Kiriakis, arrived and immediately pursued her. Rejected, Victor plotted to destroy the Brady family’s business, and when police officer Bo nearly shot Kiriakis, Caroline revealed that Bo is actually Victor’s son! To protect his mother, Bo allowed Victor into his life, but seeing how upset he was, Victor lied that he’d had a vasectomy so Bo would continue to believe Shawn is his dad.

After Kayla was wrongly arrested for the murder of Marina Toscano, Caroline falsely confessed to save her daughter. She also had her opinions about her children’s love lives, especially when she disapproved like she did when Kayla got involved with Shane Donovan or Kimberly romanced Lawrence Alamain. Vivian Alamain attempted to kill Caroline as part of her plan to frame Carly for a series of murders, but Carly interrupted before anything happened.

Caroline suffered a heart attack when granddaughter Sami revealed she was pregnant by her sister’s fiancé at the wedding. She survived that, but in 2003 found herself one of the victims of the Salem Stalker. She was poisoned and died in church, but later was found alive with the rest of the supposed victims on a mysterious island. When Tony DiMera (actually his villainous twin brother, Andre) set off a volcanic eruption everyone rushed to escape and Caroline and Victor were among those presumed dead. Thankfully, they survived and were rescued from the European castle where they were being held prisoner.

Shawn’s death in 2008 left Caroline heartbroken, but she continued to run the Brady Pub with the help of her son Max. However, there was more drama when Max learned that his father was the unsavory Trent Robbins and they clashed. When Trent was stabbed to death, Caroline was arrested for the murder until it was later revealed that Nick Fallon was responsible.

In 2010, Caroline switched the pregnancy results to indicate that Daniel was the father of Chloe Lane’s baby, but after Parker’s birth, confessed that Phillip Kiriakis was the real daddy. When Caroline began suffering memory lapses, her family grew concerned and worried it was the early stages of Alzheimer’s. Caroline left Salem to seek treatment and returned still not 100% cured. Victor revealed she didn’t have Alzheimer’s and eventually found the cure for her condition.

Sadly, family and friends will gather in Salem this summer to pay their respects to Caroline as they mourn her passing. And she is one Salem legend who will never be forgotten.
