Best wishes to Bryton James (Devon, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), who celebrates his birthday today! Starting out as a child actor, James had his big break in show business playing Richie on the popular sitcom FAMILY MATTERS from 1990-97, and joined Y&R as Devon Hamilton in 2004. He has been nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards six times over the years, bringing home the trophy for Outstanding Younger Actor in 2007. And in 2009, his fifth nomination for the prize, James won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series.
While appearing on Y&R, James appeared as warlock Luka Martin for many episodes of the second season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. The talented performer also does voice work, providing the voice of the superhero Static in the cartoon series YOUNG JUSTICE among his other animated credits.
While Devon is interested in becoming a music producer on Y&R, in real life, James has actually had success as a recording artist himself! His first single, “Ooh, the Way I Feel About You” debuted on a German TV series and he has performed live around the world. His single was even featured on a German compilation CD titled “20 Top Hits: Winter Extra 2000” alongside tracks from Britney Spears and *NSYNC!
James is active in many charities and in 1996 he founded his own charitable organization called RADD (Recording Artists, Actors, and Athletes Against Drunk Driving) Kids. And in 1998 he received the Michael Landon Award for charitable contributions through youth entertainment.
Celebrate James' big day with a look at some of the fun selfies he’s taken with his Y&R castmates like Mishael Morgan (Hilary), Christel Khalil (Lily), and Daniel Goddard (Cane)!
