Will Ridge Turn on Thomas? — B&B's Thorsten Kaye Speaks Out

Ridge may not fully comprehend the extent to which Thomas has torpedoed his marriage on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, but if he did, would it matter? It’s become quite clear to Ridge over the past few months that “flawed” doesn’t even begin to describe his son. Thomas is a liar, a cheat, an emotionally abusive father, and possibly even a murderer. Yet Ridge still doesn’t believe he’s a hopeless case.

“In a way, Ridge probably thinks he deserves a kid who’s not perfect,” said his portrayer, Thorsten Kaye, who isn’t sure there could ever be a last straw where Thomas is concerned. “That’s an interesting question, and I don’t know the answer. You can’t escape your kid at the end of the day, and Ridge doesn’t want to. That love has to be unconditional. It’s what you sign up for as a parent.”

The compassion Ridge feels for his son has been at the crux of his conflict with wife Brooke, and Kaye believes his alter ego feels he still has a debt that he owes to his children. “That makes him kind of blind to some of the stuff that’s going on right in front of him,” the actor acknowledged.

In any case, Ridge’s problem is a good one for Kaye in that it’s given him lots of interesting new material to play, both with Ridge’s family members and his new admirer, Shauna! Having spent much of the previous year on the periphery of other people’s tales, Kaye is glad to be in the thick of things again. “Sometimes it feels like you don’t do as much anymore, but it turns out that our boss, Mr. Brad Bell, always finds a place for everybody,” he said of the show’s headwriter and executive producer. “So I’m glad it’s my turn.”
