Princess Gina on DAYS OF OUR LIVES — Everything You Need to Know

Tags:

Princess Gina on DAYS OF OUR LIVES is a slightly complicated character to explain, but we’re going to do our best to clear things up for you. First introduced as an alternate personality of Hope’s, Princess Gina Von Amberg later appeared as an actual person in 1998, with both characters played by actress Kristian Alfonso. Don’t worry, we’ll try to make it all make sense!

Princess Gina was a skilled art thief and forger who worked for Stefano DiMera and was partnered with John Black in the ’80s. She fell in love with John and when he was reassigned, she withdrew into herself and became useless to Stefano, who abducted the presumed-dead Hope Brady and had her implanted with a microchip giving her Gina’s memories and personality. After she served her purpose, Stefano deactivated her, and Bo Brady was stunned to discover this woman calling herself Gina at Maison Blanche who ultimately turned out to be Hope.

In 1998, Greta Von Amberg revealed that Princess Gina was her mother, and they believed her deceased. However, she was actually being kept prisoner in France as she waited for John to rescue her. When Greta visited Chateau de Reves with Eric Brady, the sight of her daughter sparked something in Gina who began to regain her sanity. She attended a ball thrown in her honor where she came face-to-face with her doppelganger, Hope. Learning that John was still alive, Gina kidnapped Hope and had her imprisoned so that she could impersonate her in Salem.

Unfortunately, once she was reunited with John, Gina realized that he would never leave his wife, Marlena Evans, so she instead decided to continue her impersonation of Hope and marry Bo. But at the wedding, Gina attempted to shoot Marlena and Bo and Hope’s son, Shawn-Douglas. When Bo tried to get the gun away from her, she was shot in the struggle, and ultimately died of her wounds. (Bo later learned that the woman who had died was Gina, not his beloved Hope, but it took a while!)

Gina has appeared occasionally in spectral form, such as when she visited Greta in 2001 and Marlena in 2019. She has also returned as Hope’s alternate personality such as in 2012 when Stefano reactivated her to retrieve a precious item stolen from him. And unfortunately, mad scientist Dr. Rolf has re-implanted the chip in Hope to turn her into Gina yet again!
