Veteran actor Morgan Woodward has passed away at the age of 93. A star of the Western genre, the actor appeared in GUNSMOKE and WAGON TRAIN, but would be best known to soap fans for his roles on DALLAS and DAYS OF OUR LIVES. He also appeared as the memorable Boss Godfrey opposite Paul Newman in the classic film, Cool Hand Luke.

Woodward’s career began back in the ‘50s with roles on various Western TV shows like CHEYENNE and BUCKSKIN, and from 1958-61 he starred as “Shotgun” Gibbs on THE LIFE AND LEGEND OF WYATT EARP. In 1980, he joined the cast of primetime sudser DALLAS as Marvin “Punk” Anderson, a longtime friend of Miss Ellie and Jock Ewing. As the series progressed, he became an advisor to their sons, J.R. and Bobby Ewing.

Longtime DAYS viewers might recall Woodward as Phillip Colville, father to Genie Francis’ Diana Colville back in the late ‘80s. He continued acting into the ‘90s with his final roles being in the Chris Carter series THE X-FILES and MILLENNIUM in 1995 and 1997, respectively.

Woodward passed away on Feb. 22 at his home in the Hollywood Hills. Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
