DAYS OF OUR LIVES Star Mary Beth Evans Receives Very Special Honor!

Tags:

Congratulations to daytime actress Mary Beth Evans, who is being honored by CASA of Los Angeles with the Robert Morrison Community Service Award! CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, an organization for which she has volunteered with for four years.

Evans is best known for her role as Kayla on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, but soap fans also know her as GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Katherine, AS THE WORLD TURNS’ Sierra and THE BAY’s Sara. “We are lucky to have someone like Mary Beth Evans not only as an honoree but also as one of our most dedicated CASA volunteers,” said CASA of Los Angeles CEO Wende Nichols-Julien. “Mary Beth’s work shows that no matter who you are or how busy your life may be, there is always time to help a child in need.”

CASA of Los Angeles organizes community volunteers to help foster children in need. “It’s an appointed special advocate,” Evans tells Soaps In Depth, “and you’re assigned by the court to the case of a kid who’s in foster care. You hear stories all the time about little kids in situations… they just need more eyes and ears on everybody.”

The actress, who has three children of her own, admits that it’s an important job because the CASA volunteer is essentially the eyes and years of the court and often the child’s only strong link to the court system. “You are the impartial person who goes and interviews everybody and visits with the child,” Evans explains. “I found with a teenaged boy I had, I was really the only person who knew him. The attorney assigned didn’t know him, the social worker knew who he was, but he’s not really even there, he just sends his report. So I went to every court date with him, and I was the only one that really knew anything about him.”

Evans will be honored at CASA of Los Angeles’ 6th Annual Evening to Foster Dreams Gala on Tuesday, May 16, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The organization will also be recognizing THE FOSTERS, the Freeform series about a multi-ethnic family of adopted and biological children being raised by two mothers. It is co-produced by THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Joanna Johnson (ex-Caroline) and stars Sherri Saum (Keri, ONE LIFE TO LIVE).

“It’s an amazing organization people should look into,” Evans says of CASA of Los Angeles. “Because they need a billion more [volunteers].”
