B&B Sweetheart Takes A Nasty Turn!

She may play a naïve teenager on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, but when Kim Matula (Hope) guest stars on THE DEFENDERS Friday night, viewers will see the young actress in a very different light! “I basically play a hooker!” Matula tells Soaps In Depth with a laugh. “It’s the polar opposite of Hope! I play a character named Mia — or Ashley, depending on how you want to look at it. She goes by a few names!”

In the episode titled “Nevada v. Doug The Mule,” when a young college student is pulled over in a car carrying 30 bricks of cocaine, Nick (played by Jim Belushi) and Pete (Jerry O’Connell) try to prove that their client was set up by a girl he met on Spring Break. Enter Matula’s character. “She works for a drug cartel in Baja, Mexico, and she gets innocent little boys on vacation to fall in love with her, then drive her car back to the States. But little do they know that the car is full of drugs,” she explains. When Nick and Pete track down Mia in Mexico to get her to testify on behalf of their client, “Nick poses as a weakling guy that I’m supposed to seduce, so I got to actually make out with Jim Belushi!”

Taping the CBS drama nearly conflicted with her B&B schedule, but thanks to a little magic at the hands of the soap’s executive producer and headwriter Bradley Bell, Matula was able to make the primetime spot work. “Brad Bell and Jim Belushi are really good friends, so I think when Brad heard that I had the opportunity to do the show, he said, ‘We’ll write you out of the episode. Don’t worry about it.’ So it worked out really well!”

Matula’s episode of THE DEFENDERS will air on Friday, February 11, at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
